DAKHÓTA ROMERO
“LA MUJER DE TU VIDA”
Dakhóta Romero is a lifelong performer with world experience, beginning her career in her early years of life under the wing of her parents.
Born on the summer solstice in Santa Monica, California, Dakhóta first modeled with her mother, New York model Suzanne Mitchell, at the tender age of one, and spent her formative years in the company of her father, Award winning musician and Environmental Activist Robby Romero, sharing stages with him and many of his accomplished colleagues around the world. Throughout her childhood, Dakhóta appeared in plays and musical productions. She went on to star in the indie film, Hidden Medicine which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and aired on the Best of Sundance Channel.
Having attended Loyola Marymount University to study Classical Music, moving between artistic mediums was, and is, second nature for Dakhóta. While earning her BFA in Music, Dakhóta sang in five languages, covering Musical genres from Baroque to Postmodern. She has sung and performed across the Americas and Europe performing alongside established artists such as Taj Mahal, Carlos Santana, Lenny Kravitz, Rickie Lee Jones, Peter Maffay, Mayra Andrade, Kris Kristofferson, and Eric Clapton. Through these experiences, Dakhóta acquired a wealth of knowledge and began cultivating her unique sound, which can be experienced in her haunting version of “La Llorona” that went viral on YouTube, and continues to touch audiences around the world.
Though it’s Afro-Caribbean music, and the moves that accompany it, that caught her in their rhythmic spell. In 2017, along with International Ambassador of Dominican Arts Edwin M Ferreras, Dakhóta co-founded Areíto Arts; a music and dance company whose aim is to educate students on the history, culture, and growth of Afro-Caribbean Arts, through Bachata, Bolero, Merengue, Son, and Dembow. The pair have traveled the world performing and sharing their unique curriculum.
Dakhóta’s musical projects however are where her grace, years of study, and discipline as a singer and dancer have come to fruition. Working with renowned Bachata musicians including Billy Jaquez, Ricky Manuel, Abelito Martinez, and Guarino De La Cruz, she reinvented and recorded her unique Bachata and Bolero versions of the Joe Veras hit “El Hombre de Tu Vida” bringing her feminine perspective to life. Since “La Mujer de Tu Vida’s” debut, Dakhóta has performed with legendary artists including Joe Veras himself, Alexandra “La Reina de la Bachata,” and Kiko Rodriguez, both in the US and Dominican Republic and has released her own original songs. Her music is a showcase of the depth, breadth and scope of this sensitive artist’s multi-talented vision and passionate commitment to her work, as it reaches the ears of her worldwide audience.
